Foster-to-Adopt
Foster First. Fall in Love. Find Your Forever Friend.
Not quite ready to commit to adoption? Foster-to-adopt may be the perfect opportunity to welcome a rescued animal into your home while exploring whether they're the right long-term companion for you.
At VIDA Rescue, we understand that adopting a pet is a lifelong commitment. Our foster-to-adopt opportunities allow approved foster families to get to know an animal in a home environment before making a final adoption decision, subject to approval and availability.
How Does Foster-to-Adopt Work?
Step 1: Submit a Foster Application
Start by completing VIDA Rescue's foster application. Be sure to mention that you're interested in foster-to-adopt.
Our team will review your application and work with you to determine whether an animal may be a suitable match.
Step 2: Find Your Foster Match
Our foster coordinators will help identify an animal whose personality, needs, and care requirements are compatible with your home and lifestyle.
Foster-to-adopt arrangements are considered on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed for every animal.
Step 3: Welcome Your Foster Pet Home
Once your placement is approved, you can welcome your foster animal into your home.
During the foster period, you'll have an opportunity to learn about their personality, routines, and individual needs.
VIDA Rescue provides supplies and coordinates veterinary care during approved foster placements.
Step 4: Decide Whether Adoption Is Right for You
As you get to know your foster animal, consider whether you're ready to provide a permanent home.
If you decide to adopt, let your foster coordinator know.
Approved foster parents generally do not need to submit a separate adoption application because their foster application has already been reviewed.
Step 5: Make It Official!
If the adoption is approved, you'll complete the required adoption paperwork and pay the applicable adoption fee.
Congratulations! Your foster companion can officially become part of your forever family.

Foster-to-Adopt vs. Traditional Adoption
Traditional Adoption: You apply to adopt an available animal and, if approved, arrange a meeting and complete the adoption process.
Foster-to-Adopt: You apply to foster, receive approval for a suitable placement, and may have the opportunity to adopt your foster animal if the arrangement is approved.
Both options help rescued animals find loving homes.
